Distira is the Basque word for shimmer — for the quality of light on moving water, for the way a surface seems to be lit from everywhere at once without a single visible source. That is exactly what it does. At 51 inches tall and 51 inches wide, Distira is the most balanced form in the Radiolaria series — equal in height and breadth, centered, but unsettled. Its translucent tips cast light in two directions simultaneously: inward across the Corten steel lattice, drawing the deep iron patina into warm relief, and outward into the surrounding dark, throwing geometry onto the ground and into the air around it. The effect is less illumination than emanation. Distira does not light up. It shimmers. Fabricated from the same Corten steel as its companions — laser cut, laser welded, the iron darkened and weathered to the color of old tide lines — Distira carries 108 full RGBW LEDs per polycarbonate bubble on 24 volt DC. The color range runs the full spectrum, but Distira earns its name most completely at the middle registers: the pale green of bioluminescence, the silver-white of moonlight on a flat sea.
